Ricardo was concerned about his damp, dirt floor crawl space. He knew a dirt floor wasn't keeping any water moisture out, so he researched his options and called Ayers for assistance. Our specialists visited his home, inspected the space, and recommended installing CleanSpace, an antimicrobial-lined vapor barrier. CleanSpace is applied uninterruptedly to the crawl space floors and walls to prevent moisture entry and is also designed to be walked and crawled on. Ricardo loves the new look of his crawl space!
Our CleanSpace system has been used in all sorts of crawl spaces for a variety of different problems. This time around the owners asked for the encapsulation to be installed in a crawl space that was typically dry beside a little moisture during the spring. Their main reason for asking was to keep out the occasional critters that would show up. As you can see in the before photo, the crawl space was made up of a dirt floor and fieldstone walls. Both of these foundations offered easy access for critters to enter. The CleanSpace system in the after photo is attached tightly to both the walls and floor, eliminating the possibility of any future crawling visitors. The final installation product was the ultra reliable TripleSafe sump pump. With two different backup pumps in the sump, water will never threaten this Leslie, MI home again.
Most times, if there’s moisture in a dirt-floored crawl space, the vapor is coming from the exposed earth. The soil in this dark and cool environment can never be dried completely, so the ground remains damp, as this first photo shows. It’s also apparent that water is entering this crawl space through block walls Since cinderblocks are porous, they suck up moisture from the ground making them wet on the inside.
If this doesn’t highlight the importance of a durable crawl space liner, then maybe think of the air in this crawl space. The moist environment is a breeding ground for mold, contaminating the air that everyone who lives here breathes.
CleanSpace is the most effective solution to combating these problems and many more. Made of numerous layers of inorganic material, this thick crawl space liner is incredibly durable. It’s fixed to the walls of the basement or crawl space to provide a moisture barrier, and completely seal off the home from the earth. It’s manufactured with an antimicrobial additive, so mold can’t grow on the inside of the liner if it gets wet.
The CleanSpace encapsulation system transforms this damp, dark crawl space into a dry and healthy area.
This homeowner had water issues in her crawl space and wanted the area sealed off. We first put down drainage matting which has small dimples in it to allow water to flow under to the sump pump. We then installed the CleanSpace liner which is a thick durable liner. The liner prevents water vapor from passing through into the area and by keeping the crawl space dry, you are protecting your structure and insulation from mold and rot. Pests and bugs are deterred by the plastic barrier s well so you won't have animals in your crawl space.
Michelle was having a problem with squeaking floors in the upper portion of her home. This is due to sagging floors which are a direct result of unwanted moisture in her crawl space. A dirt floor crawl space leaves the whole home open to outside elements and moisture. This can weaken floorboards and cause the floor to sag. To help with the moisture our team installed CleanSpace, an uninterrupted vapor barrier that restricts all moisture, outside air, and pests from entering your crawl space. This system creates an energy-efficient space by restricting air movement and controlling the temperature. CleanSpace will stop any future sagging due to moisture and give the basement a more clean and sleek look.
