CleanSpace and SaniDry Improve Ithaca, MI Crawl Space
Challenge
The dirt floor of this large crawl space was covered with gravel, but that wasn’t doing the job when it came to keeping the moisture from the ground out. The moisture was causing musty smells, and people in the living space above complained of respiratory problems. This crawl space was in desperate need of a way to keep the space and the air free of moisture.
Solution
Dirt naturally contains water, so in a crawl space, once it evaporates, it moves upwards in the home. That moisture combined with a cold, dark space is a breeding ground for mold. The mold releases airborne spores that float on the air current, moving upstairs in the home. As the spores increase, it becomes a bigger hazard to your health. This phenomenon, called The Stack Effect, explains why the inhabitants of the area above the crawl space weren’t breathing too well.
To combat the moisture in the space, CleanSpace proves to be very effective. This crawl space liner is made of many layers of a durable material, and installed from the ceiling to the floors to completely seal of the home from the earth. This provides a vapor barrier, and the antimicrobial additive prevents mold from growing on the back of the liner, even if it comes in contact with moisture.
Additionally, the installment of a SaniDry CX dehumidifier, keeps the air free of any moisture in this musty crawl space. It removes up to 100 pints of water per day out of the air in the crawl space, while using the same amount of energy as a dehumidifier that only removes 40. This keeps the air dry, and energy bills low.
