Piering and PolyLEVEL Restore Grand Rapids, MI Porch
Challenge
Sometimes a crack is more than a crack.
The customers called us when their porch cracked down the middle, thinking it might be a candidate for PolyLEVEL. However, the support pillars were falling forward and that made them concerned that it might also be the fault of the foundation on their recently purchased home.
Solution
Though the problem wasn't with their basement, they knew to call us for foundation problems as well, and sure enough we found some old cracks in the foundation that had been repaired but were coming back. The porch had settled 1.5" and sloped nearly 2" from the home to the end of the porch. The support beam didn't even touch the weight bearing column anymore due to the settling, and that beam was twisted.
While there was some PolyLEVEL work to do on the top slab of the porch, the major repair required piering brackets and a repour of the slab in order to stabilize the porch above it.
We installed two helical piers in order to support the footer, and poured a new area of slab to replace the sunken, broken portion. We also injected PolyLEVEL to level the uneven, broken slab on the top surface of the porch. There is still more work to do, but at the completion of the first phase of this project, the porch is no longer in danger of collapsing and the structure is sound and safe.
