Keeping a 127 Year Old Home Stable and Dry in Alden Michigan
Challenge
Jack and his wife Patti were living in a home that was built 127 years ago. The home had very little water but due to the age of the home, they wanted to make sure there were no issues with the foundation. They had plans to pass the home onto their grandsons and decided they wanted to fix what they could to make sure it was stable and dry!
Scott, our System Design Specialist, went out to look at the home and hear about the couple's concerns. He was able to come up with a solution they were happy with and protect their home.
Solution
Payton and his crew installed a system that would keep the floors of the home supported and the crawl space clean. The system was made up of SmartJacks, Drainage Matting, CleanSpace, SmartDrain, and a dehumidifier.
The SmartJacks are steel support posts that are attached to your floor joists and have a sturdy base. They can also be adjusted, which provides a permanent solution for your home. To keep the crawl space dry and clean, we first laid down Drainage Matting which contains dimples in it to direct the flow of water to the sump pump. On top of the matting, we installed the CleanSpace Crawl Space Vapor Barrier. CleanSpace is a thick bright liner that prevents water vapor and humidity from passing through, has a mold additive to prevent mold growth, and keeps bugs out of the space. The SmartDrain is the ideal solution for a crawl space and provides protection from leaks and floods. Lastly, we installed a dehumidifier to keep the space dry and filter the air for mold spores or other small particles.
Jack and Patti were very satisfied with the work that was done on their home and were excited to know the home would remain safe for their grandsons in the future!
