Keeping Water Out of a Crawl Space and Mildew Out of a Home in Wheeler MI
Challenge
Dainen and Meriah have had moisture problems in their crawl space as well as standing water. There was a sump pump but for the water to be pumped outside of the home, they needed to get into the crawl space and physically push the water to the sump. Who wants to or has the time to crawl down into a tight space to do manual labor when you have a sump pump for a reason? The moisture in the area was also causing mildew problems in the home above. The couple was looking for waterproofing solutions to keep the moisture low, home safe, and to stop being their own waterproofing system.
Our Design System Specialist, Justin R., went to the home to inspect all the problems to help Dainen and Meriah create the perfect solution for them. He knew the crawl space would need to be encapsulated but there were some extra steps to take to keep all the moisture out!
Solution
Randy and his crew went out for the install to take away Dainen and Meriah’s worries. The new and improved system included Drainage Matting, CleanSpace Vapor Barrier, a new sump pump, vent covers, and a dehumidifier. Drainage Matting goes down first so the vapor barrier is not resting on the ground. It has raised Dimples in it so that is water does get in, it can flow underneath the liner as well as be directed to the sump pump. The new sump pump that was installed was the DoubleSafe Sump Pump which has two levels of protection in case of high-water intrusion. If the bottom pump stops working or can not keep up with the influx of water, the second level pump kicks on to keep water out of the space.
By keeping the space dry and moisture free, the home structure is protected from mold and rot while the home is protected against mildew. Things that block moisture from entering the space and can filter the air to keep it clean were exactly what this couple needed. CleanSpace is a vapor barrier that is designed to keep humidity, pests, and moisture out of the crawl space. CleanSpace Vent Covers were installed to keep outside air- well outside along with pests, moisture, cold winter air, and the hot summer air that gets through the vents. The vent covers create an airtight seal and can be installed with the rest of the system. Lastly, the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier is used to filter the air for mold or other small particles and blowing dry air throughout the crawl space to keep the moisture low/nonexistent.
The couple can now breathe happily in their home and not worry about constantly checking their crawl space for standing water they need to deal with!
