Before The Project Started
You can see clearly that the stains on the walls look to be caused by water, and the corner of the room is visibly wet. When the basement of anyone's home holds moisture and water, it causes various problems, and ultimately John was looking to resolve these issues.
Digging A Trench For WaterGuard
The Ayers team thought WaterGuard would be a perfect product for John's home. WaterGuard is a French Drain system that sits just below the basement floor and above the home's footing. For the drain to be installed, the concrete and dirt around the perimeter of the basement must be broken apart and dug up. Once the trench is dug out, the Ayers crew can begin installing the system.
Stabilizing The Home With PowerBrace
Once the System Design Specialist at Ayers made their assessment, they realized that one of the foundation walls were bowing. This problem was not only causing water to leak into the basement but also compromising the home's structural integrity. Thus, the PowerBrace System was installed. This system utilizes adjustable steel I-Beams that attach to the joist above the foundation wall. The PowerBrace system will stop a wall from bowing or cracking in its tracks, and over time, it will push the wall back into its original position. This system provides a permeant solution for homeowners!
Installing CleanSpace To Eliminate Moisture
CleanSpace utilizes a durable plastic liner that lines the walls. CleanSpace provides a vapor barrier, causing any moisture that seeps into the basement through the walls to drain behind the liner and into the WaterGuard drain below. Not only does CleanSpace offer waterproofing advantages, but it also lightens up the basement and makes it look neater. This system does a fantastic job of eliminating moisture in the basement!
Laying Down WaterGuard
Once CleanSpace was installed, the WaterGuard System could be laid down and installed. CleanSpace layers behind the drain as any moisture trapped behind the liner will funnel down and into the drain system. WaterGuard is installed out of the mud zone, eliminating the worry of getting clogged. This drain system will go around the basement and feed into a sump pump. Thus, any water leaking into the basement through the walls or floor will be picked up by the drain and will not worry John anymore!
Utilizing TripleSafe For Pumping Water Away
Before calling Ayers, there was no sump pump in John's home. Thus, any water that leaked into the basement had no way of being pumped away. In addition, any waterproofing products installed will funnel water toward a sump Pump, which is essential for John's home. After discussing the options, John decided to go with TripleSafe because of the preventive measures it provides. TripleSafe is a sump pump that houses two pumps in the same liner. The bottom pump, the primary, runs most of the time efficiently and does a great job. If the primary pump fails, the secondary pump, which is more powerful will turn on and begin pumping water away from a home. For extra safety measures, the second pump is also attached to an external battery, meaning in the case of a power outage, the sump pump will continue to pump water away. Also, the pumps within the TripleSafe utilize two different discharge lines and electrical wirings; If something goes wrong with one pump, the other will continue to work. John will no longer need to worry about water problems as the TripleSafe sump pump is a powerhouse!
Utilizing A SaniDry Xp Dehumidifier
John decided that he wanted to take extra measures in waterproofing his basement, and he decided to install a dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers remove water from the air, reducing humidity and moisture. The SaniDry XP can remove ten times the amount of water from the air as a standard dehumidifier. Not to mention, any water collected from the unit will funnel directly into the sump pump. This unit will not only reduce unwanted moisture in the basement, but it will also help John heat and cool his house more efficiently!
Installing IceGuard For The Discharge Lines
As the water from the sump pump begins pumping water out of the house, that water will travel through discharge lines. At a certain point, the discharge lines come outside the home to be filtered into the yard. However, the possibility of pipes freezing or bursting in cold states makes homeowners fearful. Thus, John decided to install IceGuard. IceGuard is an anti-freeze fitting that fits onto the discharge line. If one of the pipes freeze, water will spray out of the holes in the fitting. Thus, if a freezing problem occurs, John will be safer and happier he took just one more precautionary step in waterproofing his basement!
Attaching The LawnScape Outlet
A landscape Outlet is an excellent option for the end of the discharge line. The outlet's cover is low profile and will stop any big things from entering, causing it to clog. This outlet is level with the ground and will not be a hazard when mowing or doing anything in the yard. Most importantly, all of the dirt is filled back in after installation, and it doesn't even look like any work was done!
After The Project Was Completed
Once all of the products were installed in John's basement, not only did the basement look better, but it will function much better. The vapor barrier and dehumidifier will do an excellent job of eliminating moisture. The drainage system and sump pump will efficiently get any water out of the basement eliminating the chance of water damage. Most importantly, the PowerBrace system will stabilize John's foundation. The cement from the WaterGuard is refilled when done and looks exceptional! The team at Ayers is more than happy to have provided a permanent solution for John!
