Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Lansing, MI Basement Gets a Waterproofing Makeover

A customer from Lansing, MI had a basement that was desperate for some changes. The walls had begun to deteriorate and the basement didn't have the right products to keep it dry. We knew exactly what to do. The walls were drastically watermarked and there was no doubt that years worth of water damage had been affecting this space. We installed BrightWall's, which are low maintenance wall boards that brighten up space while also directing any potential water flow. To collect the water drained down from within the BrightWall boards, a TripleSafe Sump Pump was put in place. This pump collects water and expels it up and out of the basement. Additionally, an IceGuard was installed on the front lawn of the home. IceGuards are pipes that allow water to flow through them, away from a home whether or not the pipe is frozen. This is a highly valuable product for homes in below freezing temperature environments. All of these implementations were vital in creating a waterproofed basement.

Inadequate Basement Drain

This basement had a drain that was not going to save it from harsh Michigan weather. This rust is a red flag that this drain has left standing water, which is the last thing that you would like a water drain to do.

Chipping Walls Reveal Water Damage

When we see that walls are chipping and cracking like this, it is a clear sign that water has made its way into the basement many times before. Water is much more powerful than we think, it can destroy a wall very easily.

New TripleSafe Sump Pump

We set up this home with a brand new TripleSafe sump pump. TripleSafe is a sump pump with three different pumps in one liner. The first being the 1/3 hp zoeller pump which does most of the pumping and is placed at the bottom of the liner. The second is the 1/2 hp zoeller that is placed slightly higher than the first. This pump is more powerful but will only be turned on when needed. The final pump is the battery-operated UltraSump DC which is used in case of a power outage, this pump can pump up to 24,000 gallons of water.

New IceGuard

We also installed our IceGuard technology into this home. The IceGuard is most commonly used for homes that experience freezing winters, just like in Michigan. This goes outside the home and automatically flows the water away from the exterior wall just in case the pipe freezes. The IceGuard allows any water to exit even when the pipe is frozen by having holes that direct the water out of the pipe when the pipe is frozen. When the pipe is not frozen, no water exits the holes.
