3 Reasons to Install a Whole Home Generator in the Spring
It’s usually late summer or even into fall before customers really start asking us about installing a whole-home generator. They’re concerned about keeping the power on in the event of brutal winter storms. But in Michigan, land of fifteen seasons that just rapidly rotate all year round, the spring is actually a great time to think about installing that generator. Here are three reasons why.
Spring (and Fall) Storms
While winter storms can be scary since they’re accompanied by freezing temperatures, Michigan’s spring storms are no joke. Every April or May we tend to have an almost apocalyptic storm system that rolls through and knocks down power lines, sometimes even spawns tornadoes. While you’re probably not going to freeze to death during that time, you’re still looking at total power loss in your home. This means goodbye to the food in your refrigerator, the ability to use appliances, charge phones, etc.
Then it all happens again in the fall.
While a generator certainly comes in handy in the winter, it’s also useful the rest of the year, and you have to make it through that 8 month spring-fall period before you even get to winter.
Heat Waves
While we tend to get at least one brutal heat wave each summer, the summer of 2006 sticks out in my mind. There was about a week where temperatures topped 100 degrees most days, and blackouts were happening across the country, solely from the heat.
Extreme heat can be just as dangerous as cold temperatures, so losing power in the summer and not being able to run a box fan, let alone an air conditioner, can spell disaster.
Peace of Mind
Let’s say you know you want a generator. Or maybe you’re considering it, but have questions. “Call Ayers” sits on your to-do list, planned for the late fall.
Meanwhile, it storms. It gets hot. Maybe a rogue chipmunk swan dives into your neighborhood’s transformer or that ancient maple tree across the street finally gives up and crashes down, taking the lines with it. The power goes out and it’s too hot, or too cold, or it won’t stop raining and your sump pump doesn’t have the electricity it needs to keep up. And you wish you’d already called.
The good news is, you don’t have to wait! Beat the rush and schedule an appointment to talk about your options and how a generator could benefit your home, and then kick back all year.
