Waterproofing All-Stars
We often talk about the importance of a waterproofing system when you have water in your basement, but we don’t always get into the nitty-gritty. A drainage system, sure; a sump pump, of course. But what happens after that?
At Ayers, we believe it’s the details that really bring everything together, and that’s why we always recommend two small discharge line accessories with our waterproofing systems. The pieces may seem insignificant, but they’re the finishing touch on your peace of mind.
IceGuard
Michigan winters get pretty cold. And with the cold comes freezing - especially freezing water. In other systems, when a discharge line freezes, any water pumped from the sump would simply hit the ice blockage and reverse course, right back into your basement. Winters can be long and harsh here, and it can be difficult to thaw a discharge line, so you’re looking at a wet winter.
The IceGuard system fits over the top of the discharge line and creates an escape route. When water hits a frozen blockage in the line, it will still reverse course. But instead of going back into the basement, it flows out through the grates in the IceGuard system and stays outside.
Lawnscape Outlet
When water is pumped into the discharge line, it has to go somewhere, right? In the past, this has meant keeping the discharge line above ground, or burying it and risking it getting clogged with mud and backing up into the house. But there’s a better solution.
The Lawnscape outlet is a grated cover that attached to the exit point of the buried discharge line and sits level with the ground. This allows water to exit freely without turning into a clogged mud pit, and the design keeps leaves and grass from getting in and causing trouble. It also means that the line can be buried, which eliminates the eyesore of a long discharge line, and keeps the line safe from damage while also preventing it from being a trip hazard.
Installing a waterproofing system is a smart choice, and necessary for any home with water problems. But with a few key additions, you can take your system from good to great. Call today to schedule your free inspection and ask about a custom solution for your home.
