Weird Wednesday: The Haunted Basement
With spring break coming up, many of you may be brainstorming places to vacation with your family. I’m sure Disney World is on the list, right?! Well, with one look at this man’s basement, you might want to skip the lines of a crowded amusement park and knock on his door for an experience that’s just as cool.
Josh Brown and his wife decided to remodel their basement in 2016, with a very clear, unique theme in mind: Disney’s Haunted Mansion. This attraction at the Magic Kingdom park allows guests to ride through a haunted manor. Led by an animated ghost, the ride takes tourists through a series of haunted chambers where they encounter the “ghosts” of the former homeowners. After visiting the attraction and attending a day camp in the park when he was 11, Josh Brown became a lifelong fan of the Haunted Mansion.
The basement of his home stays true to the theme park ride—from the hand painted wallpaper to a hand carved clock and fireplace that resembles the ones in the mansion. Josh even incorporated technology in the space, enabling a portrait on the wall to slowly change into a ghost, and using a projection effect to show a head floating inside of a crystal ball.
While some might say the space is a little creepy or over the top, Josh certainly shows us that the possibilities are endless once you have a dry basement!
