Weird Wednesday: It's Raining Moose
Apparently, we can now declare January “Large Game in Your Basement” month. At least, in Idaho we can. Specifically Hailey, Idaho.
Last January, I posted about an elk that had fallen through a window well and into a finished basement in Hailey, a city in the Wood River Valley. The area has seen an uptick in wildlife activity in the winter when snow drives them down to forage in areas with a little less ground cover.
On Sunday morning, another Hailey resident received the same wake up call, but this time the culprit was a moose.
Described as “polite” by the homeowner, the moose was not interested in being led up the stairs and eventually had to be sedated so they could remove her safely from the basement.
According to the Idaho Fish and Game Magic Valley office’s Facebook post about the incident, the same person took the call as with the elk incident, and had the fun of dispatching Senior Conservation Office Alex Head to both early morning calls.
We’re glad both animals were safely removed, and applaud the Magic Valley office’s hard work and good humor as they tackle these strange situations.
And Hailey, Idaho residents? You may want to look into reinforcing your basement windows.
