Upgrading Inefficient Waterproofing System in Grand Rapids, MI
Challenge
This homeowner had experienced water issues in the past so they decided it was time to get a waterproofing system installed to fix the problem once and for all. Unfortunately, the system proved to be ineffective and water was continuing to enter the home. There is a landing in the basement with a step and when the previous system was installed, a trench drain was placed in front of the step, but water was still coming in through the wall where the step is located. The homeowner was looking to finish the basement but wanted to make sure it was fully waterproofed first.
Solution
We decided to install the effective WaterGuard drainage system. This system includes specialized pipes that are installed around the interior perimeter of the basement to collect water coming into the home and then drain it into the sump pump. To start, we removed sections of the flooring to place the pipes. The pipe was placed on top of the footing to prevent it from clogging with dirt and was also placed away from the wall to allow water to easily enter the system. To restore the floor, we then covered the system with concrete, leaving out a small section closest to the wall so water can enter the pipes.
