Foundation Repair Photo Album: Helical Piers Restrain a Home's Moving Foundation in Hale, MI

Our friend David, a cottage owner in Hale, MI was experiencing troubles with his foundation moving. He started to notice its movement when his windows and doors became tough to open and close. Without knowing the severity of his foundation issues, he made a solid decision and gave us a call. One of our Senior System Design Specialists, Roger Powell calculated a strategic plan to lift the home back to its original position and permanently support its weight. In executing this plan, we used seven helical piers. These piers are long steel shafts, that are advanced deep into the ground to competent soil. The footing of the home sits on top of these shafts using a heavy-duty steel anchor. We installed these anchors by excavating soil from around the exterior of the home until we reached the footing. We advanced the piers from there creating a solid and permanent solution, in finishing the job we replaced the removed soil. With these piers in place, we have allowed our friend David to safely enjoy his cottage once again.

There is no doubt that our friend's foundation was on the move. The two blocks near the crawl space vent had intruded in on the space that the vent once occupied.

With this many unsecured cement blocks underneath our friend's cottage, it would have only been a matter of time before his foundation began to cave.

Our Friend's Cottage Has Been Stabilized

The piers have now been set in place, and the hole has been back-filled. Through the hard work of our team, David's cottage has once again been stabilized. It's now time to lay grass seed to help return this lawn to its natural state while combating erosion.
