Margaret G's home felt cold to her all the time. In winter, it was especially bad with cold floors caused by a crawl space that was not insulated with a dirt floor. Crawl spaces that are not encapsulated allow air to enter through vents and through the exposed ground. We help Margaret warm up her home by adding a 20 mil CleanSpace liner to prevent air and water from entering the home. We also insulated her rim joists using foam and added SilverGlo insulation panels to the walls of the crawl space.

Crawl Spaces Have Dirt Floors

As you can see this dirt floor is uninsulated and cold air easily enters the crawl space and moves up into the living space above. This is the reason Margaret continued to have cold floors.

There are several points of entry for cold or warm air: the dirt floor, the uninsulated rim joists or the spaces between blocks in a cement block foundation wall.

Here we have add a firm SilverGlo insulation board to the walls of the crawl space. The SilverGlo also reflects heat back into the space as well as prevents cold air from entering.
