Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: A Cottage in Union City, MI Receives a Floor Rebuild and the CleanSpace System

Our friends Daniel & Kaellen began experiencing a cold and damp crawl space in Union Pier, MI. They could feel the cold air rising from the crawlspace below their cottage. The couple became frightened because their floors were beginning to bow and sink. They also revealed that they both had begun struggling with breathing issues when they made trips to their second home. Going to the cottage was becoming an unenjoyable weekend get away. Our friends saw our crawl space ad on TV and knew we were speaking to them. Upon sending System Design Specialist Zack Krieger out to assess their crawl space, we were able to pinpoint exactly what was causing our friends concerns. Zack found that Daniel & Kaellen’s cottage floor and support beams were in extremely poor shape because of the extensive humidity and moisture content found in the crawl space. The Need For A New Cottage Floor

The plywood floor in our friend's cottage was in extremely rough shape. There were holes in the floor like this throughout the entire home.

The Damage Has Been Done

There was a lot of moisture and condensation in this couple's crawl space. Over time this took its toll and unfortunately caused the support beams to rot extensively.

Multiple Support Beams Have Collapsed

This support beam has completely rotted and broken free. For this to occur, we know the wood has been exposed to a high moisture content for several decades. If nothing was done to stop this crisis, the floor would have been next to cave.

The Decision To Rebuild The Floor

Given the poor deteriorating condition of Daniel & Kaellen's cottage floor, our design specialist and our friends agree that the floor needed to be rebuilt. To start this project, we stripped all of the old wood away and installed new sturdy floor support beams.

It's Time To Make This Crawl Space A CleanSpace

The CleanSpace encapsulation system has now been installed in the cottage. This system will begin lowering the moisture level and improving the energy efficiency of their cottage almost immediately.

Relaying The Floor

With the CleanSpace encapsulation system set in place, its now time to replace the plywood flooring. Once our friends choose carpet or tiling that they like, it will be installed, and their new cottage floor will be complete.

To provide maximum energy efficiency and comfort in their cottage, Daniel & Kaellen chose the installation of FrothPak spray foam below their newly installed floor. This will help keep their cottage cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Extensive moisture and a high relative humidity content in the crawl space are major causes for all of our friend's problems with their cottage.
