Moldy, Wet Crawl Space Now Usable and Healthy Thanks To CleanSpace in Middleville
Challenge
When most people think of a cottage on a lake, they think of summer days and vacations, not crawl space flooding and mold. Unfortunately for the owners of this Middleville, MI cottage, the latter scenario was their reality. Their crawl space under the addition of their home built in the 70’s was full of water. With a non-operating sump pump, the water sat in the space—breeding mold. This isn’t only bothersome, but mold in the crawl space can be hazardous to the health of all who live in the home.
Solution
Ayers worked with these homeowners to help eliminate the water and mold in the crawl space, making it dry and healthy.
First, our team removed the debris and sprayed a MoldX treatment so that a CleanSpace liner could be laid down. This durable liner is 20mil thick made of many layers of polyester cord reinforcement. Fixed on the walls of the crawl space, it will stay where it’s installed, and provides a barrier for any water that may enter the space. One of the greatest benefits of CleanSpace is the antimicrobial additive manufactured into the liner. This odorless and safe additive prevents mold growth on the inside of the liner.
To direct water out of the crawl space, Ayers installed a new sump pump. If water enters the crawl space, it flows beneath the CleanSpace liner, across drainage matting to the sump pump. The SuperSump then pumps the water out of the space through a discharge line away from the house.
This crawl space is dramatically transformed by the installation of CleanSpace and new sump. Now the homeowners can enjoy their cottage and its healthy, usable crawl space, too.
