PolyLevel Repairs Settled Basement Floor in Lansing, MI
Challenge
This homeowner was looking for some insight as to why his foundation walls and floors in his basement were cracking and would like to know how to repair the problem. When we visited the property we found vertical cracks in the basement walls and several cracks on floors, both of which were caused by settlement in the cement slab flooring. The slab supports the walls of the home, so as it sinks in different areas the floor begins to crack and the walls crack as well because it is no longer being sufficiently supported. This homeowner wanted an efficient and effective way to fix his basement floors.
Solution
PolyLevel was the obvious choice after inspecting the home. The concrete slab in the basement was setting because the soil beneath the home was no longer able to support the weight of the concrete or the rest of the home. PolyLevel uses high-density polymers that are used to lift the concrete slab back to its original position, preventing the floors and walls from cracking any further. For this installation, we drilled several small holes on the basement floor that were filled with the lightweight polymers. After being filled, the polymers expand and lift the slab.
