Crumbling Stone Wall Waterproofed In Alpena, MI
Challenge
This basement had several water leaks. There were some wall leaks as well as water coming up from the floors. Part of the the stone and mortar foundation was crumbling and needed to be addressed as well. The homeowner had tried some DIY fixes applying a sealant to some of the areas where water was leaking in but with no success. He needed a way to remedy the crumbling walls and waterproof water entering throughout the basement whether it be from the walls or floor.
Solution
Our team cleaned and vacuumed the crumbling wall to remove any of the loose materials. The wall was then covered with frothpak to help seal and the wall and hold materials in place. WaterGuard was added along the perimeter walls to collect incoming water. WaterGuard is a french drain system that sits on the home's footing and collects water along the base of the walls and directs it to the sump pump that we installed for removal from the home. Durable CleanSpace material was added to the walls to help direct water downward along stone walls and into WaterGuard system. The CleanSpace is a bright white material that lightens up the dark basement. It's mold-resistant and is very difficult to rip. This basement is now dry and the crumbling wall is held in place.
