Grand Rapids Michigan Basement Could Not be Finished Until Waterproofed
Challenge
This Grand Rapids homeowner had plans to finish their basement but was noticing water seeping in through the walls. Before any finishing products or furnishings could be put in the basement, the issues needed to be dealt with.
Flor called us to learn about the options to waterproof the basement and make sure it would remain dry. Our System Design Specialist, Bryce, went out to inspect the home and create a custom solution for Flor’s home.
Solution
Bruce and his crew were scheduled to complete the project at Flor’s home. The waterproofing system they installed consisted of a WaterGuard Drain and TripleSafe Sump Pump. The WaterGuard is a French drain that gets installed under the floor but above the foundation footing to keep it out of the “mud zone” where the drain could clog. The drain collects water that seeps into the basement from the walls and drains it to the sump pump. WaterGuard is installed quickly, and all concrete is restored afterward so you do not have an unsightly drain in your basement. The TripleSafe Sump Pump is named after the 3 levels of protection it provides. There are 2 pumps set at different levels to keep the home dry even if the lower pump fails or there is a period of high-water intrusion. The third protection is the backup battery which keeps the pump working in cases of a power outage.
With the basement waterproofed, Flor could start on the plans to create more usable space!
