Photo Album: Push Piers Support Foundation In Ada, MI Walkout

Mike called us interested in some underpinning on a back walkout patio that they were going to be putting in. Underpinning tends to be more risky and ineffective than push piers which we suggested and ultimately installed. Push piers are quickly installed on the inside using the weight of the home to drive steel piers down past shifting soil layers to competent soil. This will permanently support the foundation with no maintenance.

Underpinning Requested

Mike called about underpinning along this wall prior to a patio being added along the other side. Underpinning is still susceptible to shifting soils while push piers are a permanent and reliable fix and are quick to install.

This is the exterior view. This will become a patio soon once the foundation is properly supported.

Piers Are Driven Into The Ground

Holes are dug along the foundation and then a heavy-duty steel bracket is installed against the foundation's footing. Then piers are driven into the ground to stable soil.

Heavy-Foundation Brackets Installed

The weight of the home is transferred onto the piers affixed with a heavy-duty foundation bracket on the top.

Holes Are Backfilled

Once the foundation is properly supported with the push piers, the hold is back-filled so that any removed concrete could be replaced.

Concrete Is Replaced

The portion of the concrete slab that was removed for installation is replaced and smoothed out so that you would never even know that any work was done.

The Foundation Is Now Supported

The work is completed once the concrete dries. These push piers can be installed either on the interior or exterior and can be done so relatively quickly and easily making them a great choice for a variety of situations.
