Photo Album: Brickwork Supported With Piers In Churubusco, IN

This brick archway was starting to sink leaving stair step cracks throughout the structure. Our team dug down around the arch to reveal the bottom of the foundation. A low-profile helical pier was driven deep down into the soil below the arch until it reached sound competent soil that could be trusted to permanently support thes structure. A heavy-duty bracket was placed on top of the pier to protect the arch from sinking once and for all. The pier actually provided the opportunity to lift the structure to improve the condition. The cracks in the bricks were patched and the hole was filled in to finalize the installation.

Cracks Extend In Both Directions

Like in a home with foundation issues, where cracks extend up from the corners of the doorway, in this arch cracks extend upwards in both directions from the top of the keystone.

The first step to supporting the foundation is to dig down to the bottom of it.

Helical Pier Is Drilled Into The Soil

Once the bottom of the foundation is exposed, the helical pier is drilled deep down to competent soil and then a heavy-duty foundation bracket is placed on top to support and possibly lift the foundation.
