Beth S. called because she was concerned with water issues in her crawl space. There were two main problems contributing to her damp, musty crawl space. We first had to deal with a dirt crawl space, which we knew was a big contributor to excess moisture. Second, the space only had one ineffective sump pump that was basically an open hole in the ground that wasn’t draining water out of the space. Not to mention without an airtight lid on the sump pump it would continue to release water vapor from in the system out into the air within the crawl space. Our team decided that encapsulating the space with CleanSpace and installing a SmartSump sump pump would do just the trick for this wet crawl space.

An Open Sump Hole is Ineffective

Without an airtight lid on a sump pump water vapor will continue to rise up from the ground. This releases a large amount of moisture into the space and can cause the pump to clog because dirt and debris can easily fall in.

A dirt crawl space allows water vapor from the earth into the space. This creates a continuous stream of moisture that can cause mold and rot to form. Without proper waterproofing, ground water leakage will continue to occupy the space and evaporate into the air.

The continuous stream of water vapor in the crawl space caused the insulation to become saturated with water and fall. Saturated insulation will do nothing for your home.
