As The Rain Pours in MI, Ayers Basement Systems’ Call Center Floods… with Calls!
WLNS TV 6 Lansing - Jackson | Your Local News Leader
April showers have been bringing much more than May flowers for many Lansing area residents. Over the past few days, record rainfall inundated fields and flooded basements all over Michigan. As you’d expect in situations like these, for area waterproofing contractors, like Ayers Basement Systems, calls from homeowners seeking help with their flooded basement have been pouring in just as heavily as the rain.
Just on April 12 alone, we received over 100 calls and our crews have been working around the clock ever since. We are doing everything in our power to help our community, and if you are among the many callers that have reached out to us for help, rest assured that we will get to you as soon as possible.
A basement flood is no laughing matter and we at Ayers -- having worked in so many of them -- understand better than anyone else the hassle, expense and headaches they can cause.
Even if your basement didn’t flood, but you have experienced any kind of water intrusion during these particularly wet April days, we strongly suggest that you don’t take it as a sign that it can’t get any worse. A leaky basement is a sign of foundation drainage failure, and as it happens with any foundation related problem, it never gets better on its own. It always gets worse. Today’s leaky basement is tomorrow’s flooded basement.
As the rain tapers off -- and before the next round of heavy rains, which in Michigan usually happens in June -- consider calling us for a free inspection, and while you wait for your scheduled appointment, there are a few things you can do to help minimize the problem.
Tips to minimize flooding issues
- Start by making sure that your gutters are clean and in working condition. No gutters? Consider installing them.
- If the downspouts are discharging too close from the foundation, consider extending them. Ask us about our line of downspout extensions.
- How is the grading around your house? Since it is still early in the season, chances are you didn’t start your landscaping and the garden is still dormant, which makes this a great time to improve grading. It should slope away from the foundation wall to keep water from pooling next to the foundation.
- When you do start your garden, remember to avoid planting anything that needs constant watering too close to the foundation.
