3 Reasons to Upgrade Your Sump Pump
Half the battle of keeping your basement dry is having a sump pump. But there’s a caveat there - it has to be a good sump pump. It has to be effective no matter how much rain falls or how many days in a row it rains. It has to withstand floods, power outages, and even toy submarines.
Are you wondering if yours is up to snuff?
Here’s why you should upgrade.
1. Power
In the midwest, it might not rain for weeks, and then it rains for five days straight. Or it only rains for twelve hours but it rains an inch per hours. Basically, when it rains, it pours. A standard sump pump purchased from a big box store just can’t keep up. And if you live near the water? Forget it.
We can customize a sump pump to meet your home’s needs. Maybe you need one powerful pump, or maybe you need two. Maybe your power goes out often and you want a third, battery powered pump, too. Our TripleSafe is the Escalade of sump pumps, with three powerful pumps contained in one liner and ready for any situation. The first pump will take care of almost any storm without batting an eye, but if you live near the water or experience apocalyptic rain scenarios, a second pump sits higher in the liner and will kick in if the first pump gets overwhelmed. Finally, a third battery powered pump will kick on if the power goes out to keep your basement dry (but more on that later).
2. Safety
One of the biggest problems we see with our customers’ existing sump pumps is how prone they are to damage. An uncovered sump pump is at risk of clogging from mud, dust, and debris, which can make the pump seize and stop working. It’s also at risk of physical damage in the event something is dropped on it or you have a curious little sailor who likes to put their toy boats in the water flowing through it (we’ve seen it).
All of our sump pumps are encased in a crock with a tight cover to protect the pumps from damage and clogging. In addition to providing protection, the cover also looks nicer than an open hole that goes nowhere. It’s one of the little things that adds peace of mind.
One of the most common times for basement flooding is during a storm. One of the most common times for electricity outages is during a storm. A sump pump requires electricity to run. You can see the problem here.
As I mentioned above, we have a solution for that. Our UltraSump battery backup pump can be added to any of our other pump systems to provide protection under any circumstance. In the event of a power outage, the UltraSump’s alarm will sound as it turns on, and it’s capable of discharging 12,000 gallons of water on a single battery charge.
Of course, if your power goes out often, it may be time to think about a whole-home generator. But we can talk about that another time.
Installing a sump pump is a great first step at keeping your home safe and dry, but a pump that’s too weak, easily broken, or fails when it’s needed the most provides a false sense of security. Call today to ask about upgrading your sump pump and never worry about it again.
