Creating a Gremlin-free, Pet-approved Crawl Space
Our fur babies love getting into everything—they’re either under our couches, inside our fridges (yes, true story), or atop our bookshelves. However, there’s one place you will NOT find them—your damp, nasty, critter-vacation-spot crawl space. As inquisitive as Meriah and Dainen’s dog Jack was, this 5-year old retriever would never spend time in their wet, dark crawl space. Even Jack knew when a space was unwelcoming and possibly hard to breathe or relax in.
Why are our crawl spaces such a harbinger for all things moist, smelly and gross? Well they are basically dirt spaces under our homes exposed to outside air and moisture from the surrounding soil. That water vapor (aka “humidity”), left unchecked, will cost you in the long run if you do not seal your crawl space. Let me explain.
If you’re a child of the 80's like me, you’ll remember the adorable mogwai called “Gizmo” in the 1984 cult flick Gremlins. When he came into contact with water, he sprouted more mogwai who turned into evil gremlins when fed after midnight. Let’s just say that by the time Meriah and Dainen noticed mildew in their home above ground, the humidity in their dirt crawl space most likely caused other issues like mold and rot that were undiscovered. One of the ways humidity moves from your crawl space into the upper levels of your home is through your HVAC duct system. Other gremlins that could eventually show up in your home are:
- dampness in your carpets (which would eventually start smelling),
- buckling hardwood floors, or
- (swollen) doors or windows that constantly get stuck (did you just have an “a-ha” moment?!)
To take the analogy further, those gremlins that appear to be harmless at first, when fed with constant humidity through your air ducts and from constant warm air rising from the ground up, become a costly nightmare. This is usually when people give us a call.
You wouldn’t think that the bottom of your home has such an impact on life above ground, but this family could see how an investment below reaped benefits for their entire family. When their fur baby Jack made his way down to their newly sealed crawl space and then felt so comfortable and cool that he took a NAP, Meriah and Dainen knew they had made the right choice to contact us.
Jack’s grandma, Tanya, happens to work at Ayers and was ecstatic that her family had been taken care of.
“I have peace of mind now knowing that my son, daughter in law and my grand dog will all be breathing much cleaner air,” she said.
She should know. As an Ayers customer care coordinator, Tanya fields calls from people looking for a reputable company to get the job done right, the first time. She also receives messages from satisfied customers.
“My son texted me a few days after the install and said he was so happy that they had the crawl space done, in case he forgot to tell me!”
Most people are extremely surprised by the way they feel after we install the CleanSpace® encapsulation system in their crawl space. The overwhelming feeling is one of relief. The immediate impact they feel in their living space is cleaner, healthier air and that non-seasonal allergies will start to go away. Oh, and they may see much less of Jack, above ground.
