Not Quite Finishing Your Basement

Not Quite Finishing Your Basement - Image 1

Not everyone wants a finished basement. While the extra space can be nice and we’ve talked at length about the benefits of it, it’s simply not for everyone. Maybe your basement’s layout makes decent sized rooms unlikely. Maybe it was finished in the past and water problems destroyed it and now you’re reluctant. Or maybe it’s just not important to you and you’d rather put your home improvement budget toward other parts of the house. Regardless of your reason for not wanting to finish your basement, it doesn’t mean you can’t take small measures to make the space cleaner and more inviting - no one should do laundry in a dungeon.

We offer many products that fall into the “pre-finishing” or “sort of finishing” category because we get calls every day from people who fall into that category. Just because they don’t want to use the basement as living space, it doesn’t mean they want to dodge spiders every time they go down there. Let’s talk about just a few of them, which can be easily installed in conjunction with a waterproofing system.

Brightwall

Brightwall is a rigid plastic wall covering that gets its name because it’s, well, bright. The bright white panels are waterproof and inorganic, which means that if you do have any water issues, they won’t be affected (unlike drywall or wood paneling). It can even be tied into your waterproofing system to funnel that water away immediately, all while providing a clean look. Brightwall can be installed on block or poured concrete walls and instantly spruces up even the darkest laundry corner.

Flooring

Once your walls are taken care of, you might suddenly hate your dingy concrete floor. It’s cold, it always feels dirty, and now it sticks out against your clean white walls. Well, good news - we offer a variety of flooring products that, like Brightwall, are waterproof and inorganic and are manufactured specifically to work in environments with moisture. Carpet collects moisture and harbors mold, but our flooring options - available in finishes from tile to modern wood plank to even carpet - resist moisture while creating a thermal deck that actually keeps your floor warmer.

Even if you don’t want to finish your basement, it’s completely normal to still want it to be clean and nice down there. Maybe you want a decent place to run on the treadmill, maybe you want to stop arguing with your kids about throwing their laundry in because “it’s gross down theeeerrrrreeee,” or maybe you just want to put the Christmas decorations away without battling Jumanji-sized spiders crawling out of dark corners. Whatever your goals are, we’re here to help you achieve them - call today to schedule a free inspection.
