How Will You Spend Your Time this Spring?

The dreaded lost hour of “spring forward” is only two weekends away, but if there’s a problem in your basement or crawl space, you’ve lost way more time than that already. And you’ll keep losing time until the problem is fixed.

I always think of a customer from a few years ago, who called us with water flooding her walkout basement. She and her husband had been taking two hour shifts for the past 36 hours, bailing out water with buckets and using a shop vac to try and catch the rest. They’d done this around the clock. 

They could barely keep up with the water, let alone get ahead. They had both called out of work and other obligations. They were starting to snipe at each other in their frustration and exhaustion. They were hopeless.

They were an extreme case, but the bones of the situation are always the same. How many times have you woken up during a storm and your first thought was “I wonder what’s getting wet in the basement?” How much time have you spent monitoring those spots you know always flood, or moving ruinable things to higher ground? How many times have you been surprised when a previously “safe” spot turns up flooded?

We get 24 hours in a day. The average American spends 8 of those working, and another 8 sleeping. Then add in commuting to work, running the kids around, buying and preparing food, doing chores...it adds up quickly. And that’s before you add in the things you WANT to do - like devote time to your hobbies, spend time with your family, go out to dinner, or even take a nap.

Something’s gotta give, and it should be the time-suck you never asked for.
