Basement Flooring 101
Whether you’re thinking of finishing your basement, refinishing it after a flood, or are just interested in having something nicer than concrete to walk on when you do laundry, flooring is a major consideration.
The biggest mistake people make when finishing their basement is using organic materials and leaving their finishes susceptible to mold and water damage. This includes carpet, laminate flooring, wood flooring, and basically anything else you can think of that you’d traditionally put on a floor.
Hydrostatic pressure often causes water to come up through a basement floor, soaking into whatever flooring has been installed. Water plus an organic food source (carpet, wood, etc) leads to mold problems, which become even more of a problem because they occur underneath the flooring and you might not notice until the mold is running rampant.
But what’s the alternative? Having a cold concrete floor in your otherwise finished basement?
Not so fast.
In addition to wall systems (a topic for a different day), we offer a variety of flooring options. Our systems are waterproof and inorganic, and, most importantly, comfortable and attractive so you can have a finished look with waterproofing protection. Regardless of your basement aesthetic, we offer something for everyone.
The ThermalDry line consists of tiles that actually raise the temperature of the basement floor by creating an insulating layer between the concrete and the flooring surface. They’re available in carpet, parquet, and laminate looks.
Want something a little more modern? The MillCreek wood flooring line is available in a laminate finish or our new plank system, which offers you the look of plank flooring with added protection. Best of all? It’s all inorganic and waterproof, which means you don’t need to worry about your floor harboring mold.
