Breaking the Water Cycle in Your Home
Despite the ongoing fluctuating temperatures, it’s safe to say that at least the spring rains arrived early this year. February’s widespread flooding caused problems in homes across Michigan and Indiana, but the past few weeks have been relatively dry. We’ve seen this pattern lull people into a false sense of security in the past, so it’s time to discuss the cycle that will inevitably occur this spring and what you can do to beat it once and for all.
1. It rains - a lot.
Now, it may not rain as much as it did in February, but we undoubtedly have some heavy rains in our future. This will likely lead to water in your basement or crawl space (unless you’ve already had one of our systems installed, that is) and you’ll panic, or sigh, or roll your eyes, depending on how much water there is and how often this happens.
2. It doesn’t rain for a while.
We get a week or two without rain, and everyone forgets - this is the way Michigan works, because if we carried the memory of every ridiculous weather event then no one would live here anymore - and that water in your basement suddenly wasn’t so bad. It didn’t do THAT much damage, right? Just got some boxes a little wet.
3. It rains - a little.
It finally rains again, just a normal amount instead of a cut scene from Waterworld, and your basement stays pretty dry. Maybe there’s a water spot in the corner but it’s nothing like last time. You decide that your basement doesn’t have a water problem, it’s just that that last rain was so intense that it managed to break through. You either decide not to call us, or if you’ve had an inspection already, decide not to move forward with the project.
4. It rains - any amount.
And then you get to the point where even a small amount of rain actually is noticeable in your basement. There are suddenly puddles everywhere, or inches of standing water, and you’re back to the panic phase from step one.
And so on and so forth. Now, what I’m going to say next is very important, and I’m not saying it from a business perspective, but from a flat out scientific angle:
Water problems in your home do not go away without action, and will only get worse over time.
Water is powerful, and water is destructive, and water has the potential to ruin your possessions and your peace of mind.
How many times this cycle repeats depends on when you decide that enough is enough and call us to take care of your home’s water problems for good. The inspection is free, and our system design specialists will sit down with you and explain everything that is going on, and then work with you to create a solution that protects your home.
