It's Time to Get that Basement Ready for March Madness
The Super Bowl is over and March Madness is literally right around the corner - what better time to turn that basement into the man cave…or babe cave…you’ve been thinking about. You decided not to host family Thanksgiving, you got out of hosting Christmas too, but now you have no choice but to host a March Madness viewing party. At Ayer’s, we know you’re busy, so let us do the hard work for you and finish your basement with our inorganic and waterproof materials. I’ll give some steps to finishing your basement properly.
It’s a great feeling to have a basement that’s finished, but it’s an even better feeling to know that it won’t flood and that your belongings won’t get ruined with a heavy rainfall. Our WaterGuard perimeter system is a great first step.
1. WaterGuard: This system sits on top of the footing rather than alongside of it, so no mud or other debris can get in. Waterguard collects the water that comes in from the walls and floor and directs it to the sump pump.
The next step would be to pick out a flooring. Wood floors are never a great option for a basement because when they get wet, mold can grow and who wants mold in their house. Carpet is also a pain when it gets wet and can cause a musty smell. Don’t worry though, we have great alternatives.
2. TermalDry Flooring: This flooring is actually made of plastic, so moisture, mold and water won’t ruin them. On the bottom, they have raised pegs to allow your floor to breathe and water can’t get trapped. ThermalDry flooring comes in a carpet look, tile look, wood look or even an unfinished look.
I guess we should also look into finishing your walls. Just like the wood and carpet for the floors, drywall and fiberglass insulation are big no no’s in a basement. They will become completely ruined if your basement floods and can also allow mold growth. We have many inorganic and waterproof wall options too. I’ll list two of the many below.
3. ZenWall Panels: This wall option is definitely the simplest way to create a clean and finished look. The front is a white vinyl and really brightens up your basement.
Lastly, it would be a great idea to dehumidify your basement. When a basement gets hot and you go to cool it, it actually raises the humidity level…crazy, I know. The dehumidifier, SaniDry Sedona, we offer at Ayer’s is the top of the line.
4. SaniDry Sedona: This unit can remove 100 pints of water per day out of your basement air. The best part is that you don’t have to empty any buckets because all of the water it removes from the air is directed to your WaterGuard perimeter system from step 1.
These are only some of the options to finishing your basement and turning it into whatever you’ve been dreaming up. To learn more or set up an appointment to talk to a professional, give us a call at 1-866-379-1669.
