Tips to Stay Above Water During Today's Flood Watch
With sporadic rain over the past week, the ground is already saturated. This means that water doesn’t really have anywhere to go when it falls. Between that and drainage systems already approaching capacity, floods can happen quickly. And when they do, the water will take the path of least resistance, which is often through cracks in home foundations.
If your basement has water problems and you don’t have our waterproofing system installed, here are some tips to keep your head - and home - above water during the storm.
1. Gutters and Downspouts
Make sure your gutters are clear to avoid backups. Adding downspout extensions can help keep water from pouring right back into the foundation, which slows the influx of water.
2. Water Removal
If you have a Shop Vac, get it out. Vacuuming up water can prevent it from ruining anything stored in your basement. The rain will be steady over the next 24 hours or so; plan a ‘round the clock schedule to stay ahead of accumulation and flooding.
3. Power Outages
Parts of this storm system are heavy; even if you have a sump pump, it will stop working once the power goes out, so mops and buckets are your best bet. Remember to get up throughout the night to check on the basement.
If you have one of our waterproofing systems installed...you’re set.
1. Water Removal
Go about your day as usual. Finish up at work without worrying about leaving early to race home and check on the basement. Enjoy your evening - your WaterGuard system is busy down there, but it doesn't need your help.
2. Power Outages
If the power goes out, you’re still fine, because you have our TripleSafe or UltraSump sump pumps with a battery backup that ensures they keep pumping even during power outages. Don’t worry about checking on your basement - we’ve got your back.
3. Get a good night’s sleep :)
