Pimp My Discharge Line
First of all, if you get the reference in the title of this post, congratulations! Feel old with me.
Discharge lines. A necessary evil if you want the water dutifully pumped out by your new sump pump to actually go anywhere. But...it’s ugly. A big white tube, spanning possibly your entire lawn depending on the grading, just hanging out and getting in the way.
It’ll kill the grass it’s laying on. The dog will mess with it constantly. You’ll trip over it playing with your kids. Mowing the lawn? Might as well get a pair of scissors for the surrounding area, because the discharge line isn’t going anywhere and you can’t get the lawnmower close enough.
And did I mention it’s ugly?
But we have your back. Our Lawnscape outlet allows the discharge line to be buried; the outlet is affixed to the end of the discharge line, creating a discharge point that is flush with the lawn while the line itself is underground. No more dead grass, no more trip hazard, no more lawn maintenance obstacle, no more ugly white tube. And the Lawnscape outlet is specially designed to prevent lawn debris from clogging the line, preventing water backups.
Once the line is buried, there are still potential problems. Here in Michigan, the ground freezes in the winter (and sometimes well into spring - thanks, Michigan). Surrounded by frozen ground and full of water, the discharge line is also vulnerable to freezing. When water is pumped out and meets a block of ice in a frozen discharge line, what happens?
If a different company installed your discharge line, the answer might be “the water backs up and floods the basement.” But you’re smart and using Ayers, where we offer IceGuard. The IceGuard system fits over the top of the discharge line where it emerges from the house. When conditions are normal, everything works as usual - but in the event of a frozen discharge line, the grates on the IceGuard system give the water a secondary escape route. Instead of backing up into the house, water flows out through the grates and onto the ground.
We keep your discharge line from being a hazard and an eyesore; we stop it from backing up in the winter. But the best part? We’ll bury it for you. Just this morning, one of our System Design Specialists mentioned a customer whose neighbor was amazed that we had buried their discharge line, because the neighbor had used another company for waterproofing and had to bury it themselves. Side note - that neighbor ended up with an inch of water in their basement during our customer’s project and scheduled an appointment with us.
