10 Great Uses For A Finished Basement
Many basements are not all that useable in a lot of ways. They’re cold, dark, moist, dusty, and full of cobwebs. For many, that’s just where the nightmare begins. The home that I recently bought has an unfinished basement which happens to be where our laundry is located. My wife hates being in the basement and as such, I generally end up doing most of the laundry; the cost of an unfinished business... (In all fairness to my wife, she does all of the folding of the laundry.)
But what if it didn’t have to be a nightmare? We’ve helped thousands of people turn their basements into dry spaces that could be finished and enjoyed. We’ve installed egress windows to make basement bedrooms up to code. We’ve also installed our patented basement wall, trim and flooring options in homes all over Michigan and northern Indiana. In the end, what do these homeowners gain?
Here are just a few things that homeowners have done in a finished basement space:
-
Movie Room - A projector and a screen combined with a few leather recliners and a bowl of popcorn is the makings of a good night in the basement. With waterproofing out of the way, the only horror stories in your basement will be the ones manufactured in Hollywood.
-
Additional Living Room - The husband is hogging the tv upstairs with another football game or the wife is watching another sappy romantic drama. If only you had another comfortable space to watch your program. A basement living area could be a great option and for greater warmth and comfort, check out our ThermalDry carpeting. You may even end up fighting over who gets the basement living space rather than the main tv upstairs.
-
Woodworking Space - We’ve seen this several times in basements. They often make great workspaces away from the rest of the home and it frees up the garage to be used for the vehicles rather than tools. With that kind of machinery our BrightWall paneling offers a great economical wall covering that gives you a clean and finished look that you won’t mind peppering with sawdust now and again.
-
Additional Bedroom/Bathroom - You said you just wanted one but the kids keep coming and now you’ve got to figure out where to put them all. You could buy a new house and move the whole family, or take advantage of the space you already have but aren’t using with a little remodel. For bedrooms, code will require an emergency exit. We can help you out with egress windows that meets those requirements.
-
Home Gym Area - One of my biggest complaints when I workout at home is the air indoors. It can sometimes feel hard to breathe when you get hot and sweaty and the humidity inside is out of control. Our SaniDry dehumidifier is phenomenal at removing unwanted moisture from basement spaces making the air noticeably cleaner and easier to breathe. It even removes more moisture at the same or less energy than most store bought dehumidifiers.
-
Game Room - Poker night with the guys just got a little more awesome. A nice table, MillCreek wood laminate flooring, a couple neon signs on the wall and you’ve got yourself a sweet setup.
-
Mancave - If you’re a guy reading this, you’ve probably already thought of this. I won’t belabor the point.
-
Bar Area - There are some fantastic ideas out there for stylish bar areas in basement spaces. A small sink, some wine fridges, a tap, and some stools and you’ve got a fantastic entertainment/party space. Add some wall-mounted speakers and you’re in business. Our ThermalDry tile makes for a great dance floor as well.
-
Rental Space/In-Law Suite - It pays for itself. One of my favorite products that we install are our EverLast Finished Wall Restoration Systems. They look awesome! They’re inorganic and won’t mold with flooding or plumbing leaks and they’re very stylish with base molding and chair rail molding. In my opinion, the most attractive and comfortable basement spaces that we’ve done were fitted with these panels. I’d take a look if you’re aiming to make a comfortable living space for mom or dad.
-
Home Office Space - Working from home is becoming more and more common but you need a place to focus, away from the noise and distractions and preferably not at a desk seated steps away from the furnace. Our Basement To Beautiful panels offer great insulation for a comfortable place that you can work in for long periods of time keeping you productive.
