Weird Wednesday: Underground Railroad Room Discovered Under Basement
“I think there’s a basement under my basement,” may seem like a strange thought to have, but sometimes it’s true. A Pennsylvania woman who inherited her childhood home had the thought when dealing with basement repairs, and asked a masonry company to dig a little, only to discover a large room under the basement.
Having recently read about a nearby home that was used as a stop in the Underground Railroad, Alexandra believes that her home may have also been a stop. She’s treading carefully to avoid upsetting the home’s foundation, and recognizes that the room may have had any number of other uses, but local historians don’t discount the possibility of Underground Railroad connections.
Quite the find for a random June day!
