Resolve to Make Your Home Better in 2016
With a new year comes new hopes, dreams, and plans. Resolutions. Many of these might revolve around finally getting things in order - your health, your finances, your career - but don’t forget about your home.
It’s easy to let little things slide when it comes to your home, because life is busy and there’s always something bigger to deal with, but little things don’t stay little for long, so in the spirit of optimism that the New Year always brings, resolve to get your home in shape in 2016. Here’s how.
1. Get an energy assessment.
If you’re out of extra blankets to pile on, but your energy bill makes you resist turning up the thermostat, it’s time to pinpoint - and solve - your energy problems. Poor insulation, bad duct work, a leaky crawl space - any number of things can lead to a chilly house. Schedule an energy assessment with Dr. Energy Saver Lansing and we can tell you not only where your home’s problems are, but how to solve them.
2. Encapsulate your crawl space.
I know, I know. You’re never down there. You can’t even use the space. But what if you could? In addition to protecting the crawl space and making your home more energy efficient and comfortable (goodbye, cold kitchen floor!), encapsulating your crawl space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier system creates usable, dependably dry storage space. Free up your closets and garage by moving seasonal items (like that tree you still haven’t taken down) to the crawl space, and bask in all of the free space you’ve created upstairs. Go ahead, bask. I’ll wait.
3. Fix that wall crack in your basement.
Wall cracks are usually the first sign that something is wrong. It might be something small - sometimes a crack is, in fact, just a crack. But it might be a sign that your foundation is in trouble, and if that’s the case, it’s much easier (and less expensive) to fix it now. Waiting too long can lead to anything from a bigger or expanded crack to complete wall failure. We have a range of products that repair wall cracks and strengthen your walls, no matter the cause of the crack. Just because you’re ignoring it doesn’t mean it will go away.
4. Make annual maintenance appointments.
Your basement is waterproofed. Awesome. You’re the best, and we appreciate that you called us to get - and keep - your basement dry. But if you want to really be on top of things, take the extra step to schedule annual maintenance visits. We can catch potential problems before they become actual problems, and you’ll have the peace of mind that the only thing lurking in your basement is spiders. And that Christmas tree, once you take it down.
