Earthquake Hits Western Michigan: Is Your Foundation Safe?
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit just outside of Galesburg Saturday morning, the second strongest recorded quake the state has ever seen. The strongest was in 1947, and only marginally stronger at 4.6 - coincidentally, it hit in the same area.
Luckily, no one was injured, and in the grand scheme of things 4.2 isn't very strong. But even at 4.2 there have been reports of structural damage, including foundation cracks in residential and commercial buildings.
Cracks in your foundation can lead not only to moisture in your basement or crawl space, but also sinking floors, separated chimneys, and so much more.
