What to Do After Your Basement Floods
Do ruined clothes, soaked books and hours spent cleaning up gallons of water sound familiar? The effects of a flooded basement may seem obvious. Unfortunately, other damages are often unseen until they become a problem.
Look for Home Mold
If water has soaked into any organic materials, mold is likely on its way. Wood, paper, cardboard, carpet, drywall, etc. are all great places for mold to grow.
Even if water in your basement doesn’t seem to cause any major damage, be sure it’s not creating an environment conducive to mold growth.
Install a Dehumidifier
The first priority after removing any water from your basement is to have a dehumidifier installed. It’s critical to use one that has the capacity to treat the amount of air in the entire basement. Mold needs relative humidity above 60% to thrive, and an underpowered dehumidifier will only take out part of the moisture in the air.
Ayers Basement Systems’ SaniDry Basement Air System ensures that the humidity level will never climb above 50%, therefore transforming a muggy, moldy basement into a clean, safe basement.
