Waterproofing a Wet Basement in Mattawan Michigan
Challenge
Allen and his wife have been living in their Mattawan home for 37 years. There were never any issues with water intrusion until recently when they found their basement carpet was wet in multiple rooms. The couple thought the water issues were caused by the downspout but when they got that fixed, they noticed the carpet was still getting wet. Since they did not have a sump pump in the basement, water was just collecting in the carpet. Allen and his wife wanted to refinish their basement but do not want to run into more issues down the line.
David went to their home to see how we could help them keep their home dry. When he pulled up some of the carpet, he found cracks in the concrete floor. He knew that the water was coming up through the cracks and the couple needed a good waterproofing system so they could refinish the basement without worry of more water intrusion.
Solution
We wanted the couple to have a safe, dry home they could enjoy so we hooked them up with a waterproofing system to suit their needs! We started with the SuperSump Plus to collect and expel the water outside the home. This sump pump system is perfect for homes that have occasional water intrusion and will keep the area dry for extended periods of time. We installed it with a backup battery to keep water out of the basement even in cases of a power outage. We also installed the WaterGuard Below Floor Drain to collect water that seeps into the basement and send it to the sump pump. It is installed below the floor but atop the foundation footing so that it won't clog and wraps the perimeter of the basement. Lastly, we installed feed lines that connect to the drain but extend to the middle of the floor to collect the water that was coming up through the cracks. After installation, all concrete is restored so there is no unsightly drains in your basement and the whole installation process is quick!
With the drains collecting water and a sump pump to keep water out of the basement, Allen and his wife could redo their finished basement and be confident that the space will remain dry!
