Rory worried his basement windows wouldn't open wide enough for an escape from the inside. Concerned for his family's safety, he researched his options and called Ayers for help. We sent our specialists to his home, and after evaluating the space, they recommended installing an Egress window to allow an easy escape during emergencies. Egress windows are built to withstand heavy soil and water weight and include a polycarbonate safety cover to prevent falls. Rory loves his new window!
Phyllis called with a twofold problem in a commercial building she was managing. One, the walls were bowing. The foundation was comprised of block walls, which can be scary when they start bowing because it looks like the blocks might pop right out of place (and to be honest, they might). The mortar betwen blocks was also starting to erode, putting the stability into further peril.
And two, there was an old waterproofing system partially in place, but everywhere it wasn't installed had water issues. Gravity and grading play a major part in where water goes in a basement, so leaving parts of it unprotected just allowed the water to shift there. The result was a moldy, musty mess.
We installed DryTrak drainage system and connected it right to the existing system to finish out the perimeter and keep the entire basement protected and dry. We then used wall anchors, which connect to the wall and then are anchored in the soil at a distance where the soil is stable, to secure the walls. In the future, we can tighten the anchor cable to hopefully straighten the walls.
