Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Repairing a Crawl Space in Shelby, MI

Our customer called wanting to encapsulate the crawl space of his home (which his father built in the early 70s) before there was too much of a problem. Rather than wait for everything to be moldy and falling apart, he was proactive and called when he noticed moisture in the crawl space. The crawl space had vents, which we covered before using CleanSpace vapor barrier to encapsulate the space. We also installed a SmartDrain to help with any standing water and used FrothPak on the rim joist to seal it off.

Exposed Crawl Space Has Moisture Problems

Vents in a crawl space are basically windows - they expose the space, and your home, to air, water, and debris.

Drainage Matting in Place

By installing drainage matting between the CleanSpace and the ground, we create a small space that allows water to move through the ground without sticking to the CleanSpace or causing damage.

Working in Tight Spaces

Our installation crews work in tight quarters all the time - this crawl space was only 3.5 feet tall but they got in there and encapsulated it as perfectly as if they had all the room in the world.

Crawl Space Insulation

In addition to covering the vents (shown at left), we used FrothPak spray foam insulation to seal off the rim joist and make sure the CleanSpace has a tight seal. FrothPak is inorganic and waterproof, making it a great choice for damp crawl spaces.

SmartDrain Rids Crawl Space of Water

The SmartDrain system will help collect any incoming water, be it condensation or accumulation.

Wrapping Piers for Extra Protection

In addition to the floor and walls, we wrap support piers in CleanSpace to continue the seal created but also to protect them from the effects of ambient moisture.
