Damp Crawlspace in Hillsdale, Mich., Affects Family’s Comfort

Challenge

Crawlspaces are easily overlooked and often ignored. However, they actually have a significant impact on the entire house. Humidity issues tormented Roger’s home for more than 30 years. He finally contacted Ayers Basement Systems after he noticed heavy condensation on the main floor windows. In just two days, Roger’s crawlspace was transformed into a clean, healthy environment that makes the rest of his home more comfortable.

Solution

The first step in reducing humidity levels was to provide the crawlspace with some long overdue attention. Debris removal, re-grading and Drainage Matting XL created an appropriate surface for water to flow correctly through the area.

The crawlspace was now ready for the CleanSpace encapsulation system, which acts as a vapor barrier to keep out moisture from the dirt and walls.

The final step was to completely seal off the crawlspace from the outside air. An Everlast door was put over the vent that previously connected the structure directly to the outside air. Vented crawlspaces greatly affect the comfort of a home by making floors cold in the winter and causing high humidity in the summer.

Debris was scattered throughout the entire crawlspace. This needed to be cleaned up before any work could begin.

Regrading was needed in this crawlspace to prevent water buildup.

This Everlast Door completely seals off the crawlspace from the outside air. Without this door, the crawlspace was more like the outside than the home.
