Kodie’s cinderblock foundation was dealing with a few different problems, beginning with the walls. The rainwater that soaked into the soil created extra pressure on the walls. All that extra pressure was forcing the wall to bow inwards and had even started to crack some of the mortar on the walls. With the cracks, came leaking groundwater. As the basement walls started to crumble and leak, Kodie called us looking for a solution.
When water leaks down walls, it puddles in the floor and wall joint. The best way to get rid of water that ends up there is with a perimeter drainage system. The WaterGuard perimeter system was installed once the crew excavated the foundation floor at the foot of the basement walls. With part of the concrete floor already removed, it was the perfect time for the crew to install the PowerBrace System and a new sump pump into the foundation, as well. The PowerBrace system spans from the floor to the floor joists in the ceiling, where they’re attached with a special tightening bolt. As a system, the beams halt the bowing motion of the walls and can even be tightened for added resistance. With any luck, Kodie's wall may even return to their original position. But either way, her walls won't bow or flood the basement again.
