Mold-Riddled Ceiling Boards
These boards were absolutely covered in mold.
Mold vs. Efflorescence
It can be easy to write this off in passing as efflorescence, that harmless white residue you see on block walls. Especially since our brains are predisposed to think of mold as green. But efflorescence only occurs with concrete, never with wood.
Mold Growing with Grain of Wood
If it wasn't gross it would be pretty - the mold follows the grain pattern in the wood.
Mold Ingrained in Wood
It's basically impossible to fully eradicate mold from organic, porous materials like wood and drywall. You need to either replace the material altogether, or render the mold dormant and then eradicate environmental factors for growth (like water).
Extreme Close-Up of Mold
Each little speck of mold you see is actually thousands of spores. Mold spores are microscopic, so by the time they're visible to the naked eye, you're seeing full colonies.
Mold-X Encapsulates Mold to Prevent Further Damage
While you can't remove mold from wood, you can render it dormant to prevent further spreading. We sprayed Mold-X on the affected areas and installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to inhibit further growth.
