Keeping Grandkids Safe in Dowagiac Michigan
Challenge
Dave had some uneven concrete around his pool and was looking to add an egress window in his basement. He had more grandkids on the way so wanted to have a safe bedroom for them to stay in with a lid closure on the egress to keep leaves out of the well and the pool deck leveled so the kids wouldn't trip. He was going to retire soon and was hoping to have the work done on his home before then.
David, our System Design Specialist, went to Dave's home to check out the problems and build a custom solution to get the home safe for the grandkids.
Solution
Dylan and his crew went out to the home to lift and level the concrete around the pool with PolyLevel. PolyLevel is a foam that is injected under the concrete to lift it back to a level position. It is lightweight so that it will not put added pressure on the already unstable soil, strong enough that it will keep the concrete stable even with the weight of vehicles on top of it, and waterproof so it will not wash away. PolyLevel cures quickly, compared to other alternatives, meaning that the concrete could be full loadbearing in about 15 minutes.
Tyler and his crew installed the egress window. To have a livable area in the basement, you need to have an egress window installed. This window is large in size and allows for a safe exit in case of emergencies. It also includes a well with a ladder or stairs to keep the exit quick and easy. Due to the large size, the window also allows more natural light into the room making it appear larger, brighter, and more welcoming!
Dave can retire with peace of mind that all of his grandkids will be safe in and around his home!
